1/48 Academy Spitfire Mk IVc

152nd Squadron, Royal Air Force 1945

Built straight out-of-the-box and used Eagle Strike Production Decals Best Sellers: The Last of the Legend - Late Spitfires (Part I).  The overall fit of the kit was very good.  Only encountered a minor problem cockpit parts and the canopy attachment.

I primed the model with Mr. Surfacer 1000 to hide out any blemishes from sanding.  The white wing stripes were painted and then masked and so was the sky color fuselage band.  I used the Gunze Mr. Color RAF Colors No.2 set.  The lower part was airbrushed with Medium Grey while the upper part was airbrushed with Ocean Grey.  Then I used Bostik's Blue Tack and to outline the camo patterns and then I airbrushed RAF Dark Green.  The result was soft edge demarcation on the color patterns.  Note that the RAF had templates that they used in painting camo colors to their aircraft which resulted in a soft or sometimes a hard edge demarcation between colors.

Since the color were semi-gloss, I did not bother to apply a clear coat and applied the decals straight on.  Once the decals were in place, I sealed them using Gunze No 46 clear.   I applied a wash to the entire model with diluted black enamel paint to give it depth.  I did not apply any weathering to the aircraft was I wanted to do a "clean and quick" build.
